Crafts disappear as practitioners age, as their livelihoods weaken and as transmission breaks down. Once that chain is lost, no later investment can recreate it.
We give a craft a new story: no longer heritage to be admired, but a profession worth choosing. We open new applications and real demand, so that a master's hands are asked for again, and a young person sees a future in learning them.

bāstān turns endangered craft knowledge into a source of contemporary innovation, creating new relevance, demand and reasons for that knowledge to be practised and passed on.
We work in the gap between two worlds. On one side, the effort to safeguard crafts that are disappearing. On the other, contemporary design searching for what is distinctive, durable and rooted in place.
We create the conditions in which craft knowledge stays useful, valued and practised. We take endangerment as a starting point: not asking only what might disappear, but what this knowledge could make possible.

bāstān is a persian word meaning ancient. we started in 2025, with fields in türkiye and greater persia.
We are the only species that makes things to say who we are.
A kilim tells where a family came from. A bowl remembers the river its clay was taken from. A thread of gold carries a city’s pride. Every craft is a conversation between a person and the earth, refined over a thousand years.
That conversation is going quiet. Not because it has nothing left to say, but because we stopped listening.
I believe design can listen again. A designer and a master, side by side, can make what neither could make alone, and give a young person a reason to pick up the tools.
That is why bāstān exists. Not to preserve the past, but to move it forward.
